Vocal Foundation Learners
About
Hey Vocal Foundation Learners,
it's a pleasure to have you on board to bring your voice to new heights, polishing your motor skills, becoming super intricate with your vocals.
This group is to share experiences, ask questions, exchange and get some feedback. If there's anything that you need a little guidance with, please don't hesitate to put it right in here.
Please read the following Group-Guidelines carefully to use the group responsibly and gain a better orientation.
Mutual Support / Up-Lifting
Please make sure that your interactions in this group are helpful and up-lifting. We want to lift each other up to encourage one another to keep going. No negative, toxic vent about other people or their skills will be accepted. If you want to contribute, make sure to check in with yourself firstly, verifying that what you contribute can uplift yourself and others. This group is about mutual support for one another, no matter where the individual is in the process of growing their voice. Criticism is very welcome, just make sure it's always constructive and helpful in order to do better, not destructive, belittling, or outright mean.
Questions & Feedback
Share your experiences and questions freely. If you have a question, or want feedback concerning how you do with the exercises, please follow these guidelines:
Assign the work-out week that you are currently in as the topic of your post. (Week 1, Week 2, ...)
Use the name of the exercise that your question/feedback-request pertains to as the head line of your post. (Sternum-Up Exercise, Yawning & Speaking, 5th Slide Exercise, ...)
If you post videos of you practicing, make sure they are not longer than 20-30 seconds.
If you post audio of you practicing, make it less than 1 minute long.
I am encouraging you to post 1 video per week with the exercise that you currently work on for feedback. Seeing and hearing what you do at the same time will make it much easier to give you adequate feedback. However, if you can't record yourself on video, an audio will suffice for most exercises where you produce sound.
My Availability
I cannot guarantee you to always be quick with my responses, but I'll try to come back to you with my feedback, even if it might take me a while. Also, it might be very good to get feedback from other participants about what they see and realise when watching you practice. It does not always have to be me. Furthermore, if I don't add anything after liking your post, rest assured that the feedback that I wanted to give you has been already said in the comments. I also encourage you to share your feedback for others. Tell your fellow students what you think you see/hear and also share what you think might help them. Expressing what you have learned and understood already can help you consolidate your acquired knowledge and skills.
Individuality & Aesthetics
Different singers from different walks of life, singing different genres are taking this course. So even though we all are learning the same motor skills, every individual might use these skills very differently for their voice. We also have varying starting points. There are singers who are already very advanced taking the course, as well as total beginners. Witnessing the practice of others is not supposed to make you jealous of their achievements, nor create some sort of competition amongst Learners. I want you to focus on your own goals and your own process.
Witnessing the work-outs and feedbacks from the different members can help you understand the different motor skills better, because you see and hear the same exercises practiced by different people with different bodies. Please use this group to deepen your understanding and get some motivation, rather than to feel bad about your own accomplishments, because you compare yourself to another's progress.
The type of progress that we strive for is tiny, but continuous. So every day you'll grow and learn a little (not a lot!). THAT is sustainable growth. We don't need, nor want big, fast leaps. Keep that in mind!
This is also not a place to talk about voice aesthetics. Whatever you deem a “beautiful” sound, or “ugly” sounds is not of interest in this group, nor is it important. This group is about exchange of your muscle training to gain fierce motor skills! It's not about preferences how to use these skills once you have acquired them.
Creating Posts
If you have lengthy posts, it's safest to pre-write your questions in a word document and then copy-paste them into the group when you're done.
That's all I got for you. Now just share, grow and enjoy the exchange. We are ready for your questions!
Happy Work-Out.
